Intravenous Lipids Therapy Offers New Hope for Patients with Infertility
For patients who have struggled with infertility, intravenous lipids therapy may offer a new opportunity for a successful pregnancy. Intravenous lipids therapy are a fatty acid derived from soy which can combat overactive white blood cell activity and prevent rejection of a potential embryo. At the Center for Fertility & Gynecology in Los Angeles, CA, we are proud to offer this new treatment option for patients who have had difficulties achieving successful pregnancy. Dr. Michael Vermesh has used this therapy with over 150 women, allowing the majority of them to become pregnant and successfully deliver a child.
"Intravenous Lipids is the way to go... for recurring pregnancy loss and for IVF failure..."
How It Can Help.
During a normal pregnancy, the body minimizes its normal response to a foreign body so that it does not attack the half of the embryo which does not belong to the woman. More specifically, natural killer (NK) cell activity is reduced in early pregnancy to allow the embryo to implant and grow.
However, for some women, this reduction in NK cell activity does not occur. Instead, these cells become over-activated and cause failed implantation or miscarriage. This autoimmune system response can result in a long, difficult, and emotionally painful road to fertility.
Research suggests that intravenous lipids reduce the NK cell activity, combating the effects of the overactive autoimmune response. Basically, intravenous lipids can increase your chance of successful embryo implantation and reduce the risk of miscarriage. Dr. Vermesh is proud to offer intravenous lipids therapy as a method for helping women who have not found success with other treatments.
The Benefits of Intravenous Lipids.
In the past, intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) was often used for women dealing with recurrent miscarriage or other difficulties with in-vitro fertilization (IVF). IVIG uses a mixture of antibodies to address the autoimmune conditions behind infertility. However, IVIG is expensive and can cause an allergic reaction in certain patients.
In contrast, intravenous lipids are:
- Organic: There are no chemicals used in intravenous lipids therapy. The compound is made from the fatty acids in soy.
- Safe: Unlike IVIG, none of our patients have reported side effects or allergic reactions to intravenous lipids therapy.
- Affordable: Intravenous lipids fulfill the same purpose as IVIG at a fraction of the cost.
Is Intravenous Lipids Therapy Right for Me?
The best way to find out if this therapeutic technique is right for you is to schedule an appointment at the Center for Fertility and Gynecology. Generally, we recommend intravenous lipids therapy for patients who:
- Have had repeated miscarriages
- Have been unsuccessful with other fertility treatments
- Are dealing with immunological infertility
During your consultation, Dr. Vermesh and Dr. Toloubeydokhti will perform a full fertility evaluation to identify the cause of your infertility issues. For some women, issues with implantation and miscarriage can be due to structural issues with their uterus, such as a uterine septum, or concerns with the embryos themselves. If this is the case, intravenous lipids therapy is unlikely to help. We can perform all of your testing in our laboratory and help you decide what option is best for you.
