Preserve Your Fertility with Egg Freezing

For many women, it is difficult to balance career goals, educational opportunities, and other concerns with the desire to have children. For others, medical issues may impact the ability to conceive.

At the Center for Fertility and Gynecology, we provide egg freezing, or oocyte cryopreservation, to preserve your fertility until you are ready to become pregnant.

Egg Freezing

Dr. Michael Vermesh and this team perform egg freezing treatments routinely for women who wish to preserve their fertility for medical, personal, or professional reasons.

The Age You Freeze Your Eggs Plays a Major Role in Later Success

Why should you freeze your eggs at our Los Angeles, Tarzana, or Bakersfield locations?

How It Works

Egg freezing uses an advanced method known as vitrification. Eggs are flash-frozen using a special liquid which maintains the viability of the oocyte. The process for freezing your eggs is very similar to preparing for IVF and typically involves:

  1. An initial consultation with Dr. Vermesh or Dr. Toloubeydokhti
  2. Preliminary fertility testing
  3. Treatment planning and medication review
  4. One to two weeks of birth control pills
  5. Nine to 10 days of hormone injections to stimulate the ovaries
  6. Egg retrieval at our office
  7. Egg freezing

Egg retrieval is a short, outpatient procedure which usually takes 15 to 20 minutes and is performed under sedation. We will flash freeze your eggs the same day as retrieval to preserve their viability until you are ready to use them.

Storage for frozen eggs
Frozen eggs remain viable for many years and have a similar rate of success to fresh eggs.

Using Frozen Eggs

When you are ready to use your frozen eggs, our team can thaw and fertilize them in our lab. In most cases, we recommend using intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) to increase the success rates of fertilization. Once your eggs are fertilized, we can implant them into your, your partner's, or a gestational carrier’s uterus.

With egg freezing at the Center for Fertility and Gynecology, you can take charge of your own path to parenthood and preserve your fertility for the future.

Studies indicate that about 90 percent of oocytes survive vitrification and thawing and that the fertilization rate is about 71 percent for women whose eggs were retrieved when they were under 30. However, the implantation rate varies, depending on your age at the time of freezing. The success rate is tied to how old you are when you freeze your eggs, not your age at implantation.

Because of the skill and technology necessary to freeze eggs, the cost of the procedure is oftentimes prohibitive for many patients. However, we strive to make treatment more affordable for you.

How Much Does It Cost to Freeze Eggs?

Our fertility specialists, Dr. Vermesh and Dr. Toloubeydokhti, use vitrification, an advanced type of flash freezing, to better ensure the viability of your eggs. One cycle of egg freezing at our centers in Los Angeles, Tarzana, or Bakersfield typically costs $6,500.00.  Additional fees for operating room/anesthesia and vitrification process affect the final cost of egg freezing. We offer flexible financing to help patients afford their dreams of parenthood.

What Affects Your Final Cost?

The main consideration that impacts the total cost of freezing your eggs is how many eggs need to be frozen. Ideally, you will freeze the number of eggs which gives you the best chance of having a child later.

As we age, the quantity and quality of eggs decrease. This natural process means you will likely need to freeze more eggs and will need to undergo more cycles to obtain the desired number of eggs as you get older. However, these decisions are completely in your hands. If you feel comfortable with fewer eggs, you may decide to stop after a single cycle.

At the Center for Fertility and Gynecology, a single cycle typically costs $6,500. We offer two packages for multiple cycles:

  • Low-Cost Two-Cycle: $8,900
  • Low-Cost Three-Cycle: $11,300

During your consultation at our office, we can give you a personalized cost estimate based on your age, the number of cycles you desire, and how many eggs you wish to collect. (Additional fees do apply for operating room/anesthesia and vitrification).

Using Your Eggs

The cost of an egg freezing cycle does not include egg thawing or in vitro fertilization (IVF). If you do not end up using your frozen eggs, you may never need to pay these fees. However, you can learn more about our reasonable IVF fees and discuss additional costs with Dr. Vermesh or Dr. Toloubeydokhti.

Flexible Financing

The total cost of egg freezing varies from patient to patient. We can discuss all potential fees with you during your consultation. In addition to our Low-Cost Program, we offer several other clinic discounts for patients who qualify to assist you with paying for treatment.

Our team is happy to sit down with you to discuss all aspects of the cost of egg freezing so you can make an informed choice about the process.

For patients who need additional financial assistance, we partner with Prosper® Healthcare Lending and New Life Fertility Finance. Prosper makes it easy for patients to finance any expense related to fertility or surrogacy treatment, including medications. In addition, their application process is convenient and usually takes less than two minutes. New Life also provides simple and stress-free financing options for fertility treatments as well as IVF and surrogate insurance.
