We participate in the Service to Veterans (IVF4Vets) Program and extend discounts to veterans requiring IVF
We are happy and proud to announce that we participate in the IVF4VETS program and offer a 50% discount on our physician fees when providing IVF treatments to the veterans. The current legislation is insufficient and does not adequately support men and women who have served our country to fulfill one of the most important goals in life to make their family complete. We believe that a change needs to be made and we began it by providing the discount on our end. We hope that the media attention to this topic will initiate the changes and that in near future this service will be fully covered as part of the veterans’ regular benefits package. The initiative is being supported by the Paralyzed Veterans of America and the American Society for Reproductive Medicine.
Over the years of working as a reproductive endocrinologist, I have always put special emphasis on helping the active duty uniformed services and the veterans. I was always proud to be a Tricare provider for our active duty members. Many males have decided to bank sperm prior to being deployed overseas and this way leave a door open for the spouse to use the sperm in case of an unexpected event and still have a choice to take the most precious gift a couple can have. On the same note I would like to mention that California has enacted one of the most comprehensive posthumous legislation in the world.
On the other hand, some veterans will return from deployment with physical injuries not enabling them to have a child naturally. This is the main group we would like to reach with our IVF4VETS campaign. For many, the only method to reproduce remains IVF and we have treated many couples in cases where the male suffers for paraplegia or tetraplegia. In these cases natural erection is disturbed and sperm is obtained by electroejaculation or testicular biopsy. In majority of the cases this sperm is not sufficient for intrauterine insemination and thus IVF with ICSI is the most common method. Assuming that the wife has good reproductive health, these couples have excellent success rates and we have helped many couples in such circumstances.
